Only the best of any place, right now.

FunToday is a working prototype. Search any city or town on Earth and it shows only the top spots: the places most active at this local hour, picked from live data on what is open, the weather, and what locals and open travel guides recommend. Zoom into a city and the evening moves: cyan trails for people walking, pink trails for car traffic. In this version both are estimated from the hour and how much is open, not measured. The code goes public soon, for anyone to read, run and build on. Here is what it could become.

Top spots only

No list of 500. A few places per city, chosen for this hour.

Live activity

Open now, local time, weather and open guides, fetched the moment you look.

Moving city

People walking in cyan, car traffic in pink. Estimated today; real counts are the next step.

Use cases

Pick one. It builds live, then asks you a question.

Each example opens the real globe with the right city and filter, built on the fly from open data. Then it asks the developer looking at it: what can you do to improve this?

Your own

Any town, any idea.

Type a place and what it is for, or start from an idea below. The globe builds it from open data in a few seconds, including small towns nobody has mapped by hand.

Growing in the open

Small modules anyone can add.

The globe grows one integration at a time. Each is a small module with a clear way in and a credited author, so a studio or a developer can add their own without touching the rest. Integrations are open source under the MIT licence; the core engine is source available.

Data in

Spreadsheets and CSV, map files (GeoJSON, KML), calendars for events and tours, GPX for journeys, geotagged photo sets, Wikidata.

Layers

Events, weather, transit, footfall, and custom layers for a brand, a town or a person.

Out

The phone page and its scan code, an embeddable widget, link preview cards, and frame-exact film capture for reels.

Use it

Free to build on. Brands license it.

When the code goes public, it will be source available under the PolyForm Noncommercial licence. Students, designers, non-profits and anyone experimenting use it for free. A company using it to sell, advertise or serve customers needs a commercial licence from Jens.

  • FreePersonal, study, research, non-profit and portfolio use. Keep the NOTICE file: “FunToday / That Globe, created by Jens Karlsson (Chapter3), chapter3.ai”.
  • LicensedAny commercial use: a brand site, a lobby screen, a campaign, a product. Ask for a licence or a commissioned edition at the address on this page.
  • ReservedThe names FunToday and That Globe, the logo and the domain are not part of the licence. Give your build its own name.
  • DataPlaces, maps and photos come from open sources with their own licences. Keep their credits; the photo list is on the credits page.
Customize for your project

The person to build yours is the person who built this.

Anyone will be able to study the code. For an edition that carries your brand, go to the source: the whole landscape in your colours, custom and moderated photography, your own places and stories, narration and a launch film. Jens Karlsson designed and built FunToday, so shaping it for your brand is fast and safe. He speaks every language a project like this needs, from shaders and motion to budgets and boardrooms.
